Preston City Centre and surrounding roads are experiencing high volume of traffic due to delays on the M6

Motorists are experiencing significant delays around Preston this evening due to an earlier accident on the M6 Motorway.

An accident earlier this afternoon had forced Lane closures on the Northbound carriageway between Junction 31 (A59 Preston New Road Samlesbury) and Junction 31a (B6242 Bluebell Way Longridge) for emergency barrier repairs.

Lancashire Police later confirmed this was a damage only collision.

The delays have caused congestion in and around Preston with Ribbleton, Fulwood, and Broughton affected, including the city centre.

Commuters are facing long delays as a result of the travel disruption.

One commuter trying to get home from work said, “I’ve had to walk home from Preston Bus station to Ribbleton as the bus is not leaving the station due to the congestion, I normally get home around 5pm but now won’t until at least 7pm.”

AA Live Traffic said that the M6 is still experiencing delays with average speeds of 15mph due to the earlier collision.
