The M65 Motorway was closed in the early hours due to the collision
The M65 Motorway was closed for several hours this morning following a collision involving multiple vehicles and two horses.
It was reported that the carriageways were closed around 2:30am on Monday morning whilst emergency services dealt with the collision in which a horse was fatally struck by two vehicles.
One person suffered facial injuries and another three suffered minor injuries following a second collision.
This happened between junctions 8 Hapton Interchange and Junction 9 Rose grove Interchange on the Eastbound carriageway.
Lancashire Police have since confirmed the motorway is now fully reopened.
Delays are expected to continue due to the closure with normal traffic conditions expected to return to normal from around 8:45am.
In a social media update, Lancashire Police wrote:
“We let you know earlier that the M65 between junction 8-9 Eastbound had closed due to a road traffic collision.
We can now let you know that the road is open for you to travel.
Thank you again for your patience and drive safely on your onward journeys.”
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said:
“We were contacted at 2.34am today (28th October) following a report that two horses were loose on the westbound carriageway of the M65 at Junction 9.
Our officers attended the scene and were made aware that one of the horses had been fatally stuck by two vehicles. A passenger in one of the vehicles suffered facial injuries,
A second collision has then occurred involving three vehicles, with three people suffering minor injuries. Thankfully the second horse has been secured and safely taken off the carriageway.
