Pumpkin Postman is one of many entrants to the Scarecrow Festival run annually in Broughton
A village has this weekend been left upset after one of the entrants to the annual Scarecrow Festival goes missing.
‘Pumpkin the Postman’ was crafted by a local crocheting enthusiast and placed onto the postbox on Garstang Road along the A6 in the village of Broughton just North of Preston.
However, the community has noticed it is now missing.
Posting on social media on Friday, Broughton In Amounderness Parish Council said:
A message to the person who has our Pumpkin Postman!
” don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money, but what I do have is a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
If you let Pumpkin Postman go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you.
But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you and I will cast a spell on you .”

The community repsonded to express their disappointment, one commenter said:
“Nasty little swine that stole it, needs a lesson in what can be done with knitting needles”
Another said: “Even more reason it should be the winner then (I voted for it on the first day!!) As a crafter myself, I appreciate the massive time and skill involved to make something like that”
It has since been alleged that Pumpkin the Postman was removed during a maintenance process and placed into the bin. However, when a local resident went to retrieve him, it was too late due to the bin already being emptied.
The Scarecrow Festival that began last week run by Broughton In Amounderness Parish Council brings the community together with residents, local businesses, and schools showcasing their creativity crafting up scarecrows and placing them outside for all to enjoy.

The festival runs annually and has done so for three years.
All scarecrows entered into the competition are put into three categories, Best Residential, Best Business, and People’s Favourite. The winner is then announced at the local Toll Bar Cafe, which is to take place on Saturday, 25th October
Broughton Parish Council said:
“Chair for ‘Broughton Parish Council is saddened to announce that our beloved Pumpkin Postman has gone missing from his rightful place on the post box. Many hours were devoted to creating Pumpkin Postman, and while his disappearance is disappointing, we take solace in knowing that for a few days, he brought joy to the residents of Broughton.
We hope that Pumpkin Postman is safe and sound and that he finds his way back to us soon.”
