All three will appear before Magistrates Court today
Three men have been charged following a fight that left three men injured in Anfield on Tuesday.
In a statement released today, Merseyside Police said:
“We can confirm that three men have been charged following a serious assault in Anfield on Tuesday 22 October.
At around 4pm, it was reported that a group of males, some who were armed with weapons, were fighting on Lower Breck Road.
As part of an ongoing investigation into the incident, the following three people have each been charged with two counts of Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place:
– Neil McGovern, 36, of September Road, in Anfield
– Alan McGovern, 41, of September Road, in Anfield
– Michael Lawal, 45, of Lower Breck Road, in Anfield
All three men have been remanded to appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court this morning, Thursday 24 October.
A 27-year-old man from Kensington who was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault has been released under investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Ball: “An investigation into this incident is ongoing and three men have now been charged.
“I want to again remind people of the dangers of spreading misinformation on social media because it can be extremely dangerous in fuelling community tensions.
“I would therefore urge people not to speculate as we continue with our ongoing inquiries. We will provide further updates on our channels and to media when appropriate.”
