Road closures are in place around the city whilst emergency services attend.
More than thirty firefighters are this afternoon fighting a fire at a building in Cambridge City Centre.
Members of the public and motorists are being advised to avoid the area whilst emergency services deal with the blaze.
Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service received reports of the blaze at around 12:30 on Thursday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service said:
Our crews are currently tackling a fire on Regent Street in Cambridge city centre.
The road is currently closed so please find alternative routes for travel and stay away from the area.
“At 12.35pm crews were called to a fire involving a building on Regent Street in Cambridge.
More than 30 firefighters are currently at the scene working hard to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.”
Cambridgeshire Police are also in attendance.
One person posted on social media saying anyone who is coming to Cambridge University be aware that there is a fire in town so all the buses are stuck and roads closed.
