A man has been arrested for various offences after a car was stolen in Northumbria last week.

The suspect who had his eyes set on a juicy KFC  was interrupted by Police who boxed him in whilst at the drive-thru on Thursday – a different kind of box meal he wasn’t expecting.

The suspect is alleged to have been driving the vehicle that had been stolen just hours before in Hexham, Northumbria.

The Roads Policing Unit and Armed officers from Durham Police spotted the car at a KFC in Thinford and made their move, boxing the vehicle in so it couldn’t escape.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said:

“At around 8.30am yesterday morning, we received information from our colleagues in Northumbria police that a stolen car was heading south into our force area.

The VW polo was suspected to be stolen from an address in Hexham earlier that morning.

Officers flooded the Spennymoor area and spotted the car as it headed for KFC drive thru at Thinford.

Teams from Durham Roads and Armed Policing unit blocked the driver in from either side (also known as a pincer movement) and stopped him from making an escape.

The man was arrested on suspicion of theft and several other driving offences – just 2 hours after it was reported stolen.

He has been handed back to Northumbria Police for their investigation to continue.
