We can and will arrest anyone taking part in criminality, say Lancashire Police

An increase in anti-social behaviour in both Blackburn and Darwen Town Centres has seen police patrols stepped up as a result.

Youths have been reported to have been gathering in the town centres, causing mischief, intimidating members of the public, and abusing police officers.

Blackburn with Darwen Police has warned that action will be taken against anyone participating in such behaviour by way of arrests and civil orders.

In a social media post, Lancashire Police said,

“Over the last week or so we’ve seen an increase in youth related anti-social behaviour in both Blackburn and Darwen Town Centres. We’ve had reports of teenagers intimidating members of the public and abusing our officers and staff when challenged.

As a result, you’ll see an increased police presence around our town centres this weekend.

There seems to be a misunderstanding that youths cannot be arrested and dealt with for this sort of behaviour. Let me be clear – we can and will arrest any person committing criminality where necessary, and we will use civil orders to prevent further offending.

Parents – please be curious with your children if they are out with friends this weekend, and don’t let them hang around the town centres where they may be drawn in to committing anti-social behaviour by association. Don’t let them ruin their futures.
