Boy, 7 Dies Following Newcastle House Explosion

A boy aged 7 has sadly died following an explosion at a domestic property in Newcastle in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Violet Close, Elswick, shortly before 1am.

Three Adults and once child were taken to hospital for treatment.

It has since been confirmed that the child, a boy aged 7, has passed away as a result of the explosion.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident in the Elswick area of Newcastle at 00.45h today (16 Oct).

“We dispatched four paramedic crews, four crews from our hazardous area response team (HART), a doctor, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, a duty officer and a tactical advisor to the scene.

We treated and conveyed four patients – three adults and one child – to hospital for further treatment.”

Images from the scene show at least four properties completely damaged as a result of the explosion that engulfed the property with flames. A cordon remains in place as investigations continue into the exact cause of the explosion.

Northern Gas Networks said its engineers were at the scene, with people being warned to avoid the area and keep their windows and doors shut.
