One Person Dies In Hospital Following M65 Collision

Five people suffered serious injuries with one confirmed fatality following the collision.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the M65 Motorway in the early hours of this morning.

The collision involving three vehicles happened at junction 9 shortly before 4am this morning, Wednesday 2nd October.

Five casualties were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police confirmed that one person has sadly died following the collision.

The motorway is thought to be closed for some time whilst investigations continue.

AA Live travel said on their website,

Road closed and queueing traffic due to crash investigation work on M65 both ways from J8 A56 (Accrington) to J10 A671 Cavalry Way (Burnley / Padiham). Congestion to routes through Padiham and also Accrington road towards Hapton. Ongoing since around 04:00am.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said,

“At around 3:37am we were called to reports of a collision at Junction 9 of the M65 involving 3 vehicles.

Emergency services attended and five people were taken to hospital with serious injuries, one person has very sadly died.

Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this incredibly distressing time, and they are being supported by officers.

The M65 is currently closed in both directions from J8 to J10 and we anticipate that the road will be closed for some time.
