Police Update On Investigation Into Death Of Boy, 8, Shot Dead At Farm

A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

An 8-year-old boy was rushed to hospital on Saturday afternoon after suffering serious injuries to the head and face following a firearms discharge at a farm in Cumbria.

Cumbria Police arrested a man in his 60s on Saturday, initially on suspicion of causing grevious bodily harm but he was later re arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter following the death of the boy who sadly died overnight from his injuries.

The incident happened shortly before 3pm on Saturday afternoon at a farm in the Warcop area of Cumbria.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the boy who has not been named was taken to hospital by Air Ambulance. He sadly died overnight.

Detectives investigating the circumstances said,

“A man arrested following the death of an eight-year-old boy has been bailed whilst police continue with their investigations.

The man, in his 60s and from West Cumbria, had been under arrest on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

The incident which resulted in the death of the boy occurred on land not far from the A66, north of Warcop, yesterday (28 Sept).

As officers continue with their enquiries, they are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
