A 41-year-old man from Morecambe had been charged and will appear in court tomorrow morning.

Lancashire Police have released an update on two incidents concerning community concern in Morecambe in the last few days.

In a post made this evening, Morecambe area Police said,

“We are aware that there has been concern in the community after two recent incidents in Morecambe and we wanted to give you the latest update.

In relation to the incident on Monday at Burdock Walk, we have this afternoon charged Boniface Kutara, 41, from Morecambe with causing intentional harassment alarm and distress. He has been remanded into custody to appear before magistrates in the morning.

Some people have raised concerns about the incident on Friday after reading our update this morning.  To clarify further, the initial report to the police was that there was a man with a knife or similar on the cycle track near to Grosvenor Park School.

To be clear, at no point was the male with the item seen anywhere other than on the cycle track and there was no indication that any children were targeted by him at any time.  We understand people’s concerns, however we would ask that people try not to engage in unhelpful speculation. It only causes people further concern.

Although the man has not identified been at this stage, we have a dedicated team of officers assigned to this case and our enquiries are ongoing. We continue to have increased reassurance patrols in the area as a precaution.

Anyone with information about the incident on Friday is asked to email forcecontrolroom@lancashire.police.uk or call 101. Quote log 923 of 13th September 2024.
