The bus burst into flames this morning on Deepdale Road causing major delays.
A busy road in Deepdale was closed this morning after a bus burst into flames.
The fire happened on Deepdale Road shortly before 8:30am this morning, causing huge delays for commuters with St George’s Rd and the Jct with Argyll Rd also being affected.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said,
“We want to update you and let you know that Deepdale Road is currently closed between the junction with St George’s Road and the junction with Argyll Road due to a bus fire.
We anticipate that the road will be closed for at least an hour whilst we make sure the road is safe.
In the meantime, we’d recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination.
We’ll keep tabs on what’s happening, and we’ll update you here once the road is open. As always, thank you for your patience, and stay safe if you’re out and about today.
The bus believed to be from Preston Bus Ltd was well alight when emergency services attended the scene.
A cordon was put in place by Lancashire Police whilst Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service tackled the blaze.
Firefighters could be seen tackling the fire which looked to have started at the rear of the single decker bus.
A spokesperson for Preston Bus Ltd said,
“The bus hadn’t entered service, so there were no passengers on board.
We are currently conducting an internal investigation.”
The driver was not hurt in the fire.”
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire &Rescue Service said,
“At 08:16 on the 18th September 2024, two fire engines from Preston attended a vehicle fire on Deepdale Road, Preston.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. Crews were in attendance for two hours and twenty minutes.
