Man In 60s Arrested After Dog Killed In Suspected Arson Attack In Crawley

No one was injured during the fire, but sadly, a dog was found deceased in the property.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a domestic property in Crawley over the weekend.

In a statement released today, Sussex Police said,

“A 60-year-old man from Crawley has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

It follows a fire at a house in Creasys Drive, Broadfield, around 3.33pm on Saturday 14 September.

Police assisted West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service at the scene, and officers will remain in the area for the foreseeable future as enquiries continue, and for community reassurance.

No one was injured, however a dog was sadly confirmed deceased in the fire.

The suspect remains in police custody at this time.

District Superintendent for Crawley & Mid-Sussex, Imran Asghar, said: “We acknowledge the impact this has had on the local community, however I’d like to reassure the community that we are treating it as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider community.

“While we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the fire, I would still urge anyone who can assist us in our investigation to please come forward.”
