The area is likely to remain closed for some time whilst officers deal with the situation.
Emergency services are currently on the scene of a road closure in Leeds.
The incident involves a suspicious package being found earlier today, Saturday 14th September.
A large cordon is in place, and a large emergency service presence can be seen in the area whilst this incident is dealt with.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area with members of the public also advised to avoid the area where possible.
This is currently causing traffic disruption in the area, and motorists are asked to find alternative routes as a result.
Homes and businesses within the cordon have also been evacuated as a precaution.
In a statement released earlier, West Yorkshire Police said,
“Police are responding to reports of a suspicious package on Harrogate Road, Moortown, Leeds, close to the roundabout with the A6120 ring road.
Road closures are in place as the package is examined. Members of the public, including motorists, are advised to avoid the area due to congestion.
Inba further update, West Yorkshire Police said,
“Police responding to reports of a suspicious package on Harrogate Road, Moortown, Leeds, have now re-opened nearby roads.
Officers received reports of a suspicious package found close to the roundabout with the A6120 ring road at 9:25am this morning (13/9).
Road closures were put in place and a small number of nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution.
An Army EOD team was called in to examine the package, comprised of a plastic bag and a military-style metal container, and subsequently confirmed it to be non-suspicious.
Members of the public are thanked for their patience and understanding following an incident that has caused significant disruption.
