Parents thanked the schools for their quick actions in keeping everybody safe.
Schools in Morecambe were forced into lockdown on Friday afternoon following reports of a man wielding a knife nearby.
Lancashire Police were called to Roeburn Drive in the town shortly after 3pm to reports of a man carrying a weapon.
Tiny Treasures Nursery and Pre-School in Morecambe took to social media to advise parents of the situation that happened shortly after 3pm, the time parents would be picking their children up from school.
A spokesperson for the nursery said,
“The nursery is currently in lock down, please do not try to pick your children up. If you are already on your way, please stay in your cars and find somewhere safe. All of your children are completely safe, and our lockdown procedure is in place.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said,
“At around 3:05pm today we were called to Roeburn Drive, Morecambe to a report of a man carrying a weapon. Officers attended and conducted a search in the area. Enquiries are continuing. We are satisfied that there is no wider threat to the public.”
Grosvenor Park primary school was also reportedly placed into lockdown.
A further update was then posted on social media from Tiny Treasures Nursery, which said,
“Thank you for all your understanding and cooperation.
We can confirm that a man wielding a knife was seen in the local area . To our knowledge, Morecambe Road, Scale Hall and Grosvenor Park and cycle track.
We made the quick decision to lock down the nursery as other local schools were also in lockdown.
As soon as we heard an arrest was made , the nursery was out of lockdown. Your children’s and our staff’s safety is our top priority, and we will never take any chances. Many apologies for any panic caused.”
Parents took to social media with one saying,
“What’s going on at Grosvenor Park School! apparently, the schools are in lockdown with some crack head with a knife outside and all the kids in lockdown in the classroom??
Some parents thanked the local schools for their efforts in keeping their children safe, one commenter said,
“Well done, everyone, for keeping my nephew safe my sister in law said you did a fantastic job.”
Another said, “Well done to all the staff for their quick actions. You never think you will have to use your lockdown procedure. But thank you for keeping our children safe.
A spokesperson for Tiny Treasures Nursey said,
“Extremely proud of our staff, we know it’s scary to hear, but in light of the recent shocking events in Southport, we will never take any chances when it comes to your children safety.
