Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack and reassured the public that an arrest had been made.

Emergency services rushed to Preston railway station last night, including armed police following the incident.

A British Transport Police officer suffered stab wounds to the neck, and a member of rail staff was also injured following a stabbing attack on Saturday night.

Lancashire Police advised commuters to find alternative routes, and a section of the train station was closed whilst investigations got underway.

A man in his 50s was arrested and taken into custody.

Both victims were treated in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In a statement released, British Transport Police’s  Superintendent Dave Rams said,

“I would like to reassure the public that a man in his 50s has been arrested and we are currently not looking for anyone else in connection.

“Our investigation is continuing at pace and the public will notice an increased policing presence at the station as a result. I urge anyone with information who is yet to get in touch to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 405040 quoting reference 729 of 8 September.”
