Two More Arrests As Part Of Barnsley Murder Investigation

A 41-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene following a stabbing in Barnsley on Sunday afternoon.

Detectives investigating the murder of a 41-year-old man in Barnsley have made two further arrests, bringing the total to five.

In an update posted today, South Yorkshire Police said,


“Two more people have been arrested today (Monday 2 September) in connection with the death of a 41-year-old man in Monk Bretton, Barnsley on Sunday (1 September).

At 4.23pm we received a call informing us of an altercation between a group of men on Burton Road in Monk Bretton.

Upon emergency services’ arrival, a 41-year-old man was found with suspected stab wounds to his chest.

Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and is being supported by officers, and we ask their privacy is respected during this difficult time.

Today, a 40-year-old man was arrested today on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and assault, and a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault.

This follows the arrests on suspicion of murder of a 19-year-old woman, and two men aged 21 and 32 yesterday evening.

All five individuals remain in custody at this time.
