Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after reports of a man jumping from a bridge into a canal close to the Etihad Stadium.
This happened on Wednesday afternoon and officers would like to identify the man so that they can check on his welfare.
In an appeal made today, Greater Manchester Police said,
“At around 5:15pm on Wednesday 21 August 2024, we received reports that a man had jumped into Ashton Canal from the bridge on Loverose Street by the Etihad Stadium.
We believe that he may have injured himself due to the height of the bridge down to the water and the shallow depth of the canal. We are appealing to the public to help us locate this man so we can make sure he is safe and well.
We are keen to speak to members of the public who may have any information or footage – including CCTV, mobile or dashcam – to aid enquiries and assist in locating the man
