Merseyside Police have confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police constable, drug offences, and theft.

This comes after a video circulating online purports to show a male being searched by door security staff in the toilet block of a local nightclub in Birkenhead.

The male in the footage can be seen with what looks like drugs on his person. The male then pulls out a police warrant card that shows a badge attached to it and says he is a police constable.

It is alleged that the male had been using the badge and confiscating punters drugs from them.

In a statement released today, Merseyside Police said,

“We have arrested a 37-year-old man from Ellesmere Port on suspicion of impersonating a police constable, possession of a controlled drug (class a – cocaine) and theft.

The arrest was made following an incident at a club in Birkenhead on 17 August where a man claimed to be a police officer and reported to have a warrant card.

The man was arrested at an address in the Wirral area on Sunday 18 August. He has been questioned by detectives and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
