A man who attacked another man in front of horrified shoppers after an afternoon of drinking in Lancaster City Centre has been jailed.

In an update posted to social media after sentencing, Lancaster Area Police said,

“Adam BARNES, 47 years old, of no fixed abode, Lancaster has been found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against another man within Lancaster city centre and causing damage to a police vehicle.

In August 2024, BARNES has been handed a 5 month and 1 day custodial sentence at Lancaster Magistrates court. The court heard that BARNES on the 20th July this year was sat on Horse Shoe Corner within the city centre drinking with a number of associates.

BARNES then began attacking a male associate, pushing him off a bench and kicking him to the head numerous times.

The other male received injuries to his body and head due to the attack. It was a busy Saturday afternoon in the city with many people including families witnessing the attack.

The court further heard than after being arrested by local police, BARNES decided to urinate and smear his blood within a police vehicle, causing the vehicle to be temporarily unavailable to respond to emergencies.
