Detectives investigating violent disorder outside Rochdale Divisional Headquarters during a protest have charged three people.

The protest was sparked following an incident at Manchester Airport that showed a video shared online of a police officer kicking and stamping on a man’s head.

In a statement released today, Greater Manchester Police said,

“As part of the investigation, our detectives have charged the following people for violent disorder and have been remanded in custody ahead of their next appearance at court:

• Waqas Mushtaq (21/11/1999) of Briar Street, Rochdale
• Nadeem Aslam (25/05/1993) of Glenridding Close, Oldham
• Safwan Khan (09/04/1999) of Coopers Walk, Rochdale

Alongside this, three adults and two juveniles have been bailed in connection with the violent disorder and remain under investigation.

Detective Inspector Sam Taylor from our Rochdale district in charge of the investigation said, “I would like to reassure our local community that we are continuing to investigate this incident and identify all those responsible.

“I’d also like to thank those who have been in touch since our appeal which has assisted us in our enquiries.

“Our work is very much ongoing, and we remain committed on bringing those involved to justice to ensure their actions have consequences.”
