A man has been charged with attempted murder following the stabbing of a girl in Central London.
The incident happened on Monday morning in Leicester square outside the legoland tourist attraction a very busy area of the capital for this time of year.
An 11-year-old girl suffered stab wounds and was rushed to hospital where she remains in a stable condition with police describing her injuries as serious but non life threatening.
A cordon remained in place whilst officers carried out their investigation, and a man was arrested at the scene. He has now since been charged and remanded into custody.
In a statement released today, The Metropolitan Police said,
A man has been charged following the stabbing of an 11-year-old girl in Leicester Square.
Ioan Pintaru, 32 (17.01.1992) of no fixed address was charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later this morning (Tuesday, 13 August).
Police were called to Leicester Square at 11:34hrs on Monday, 12 August following reports of a stabbing.
An 11-year-old girl was found with stab wounds. She was taken to hospital where her injuries, while serious, were assessed as non-life threatening.
It was initially believed that the girl’s mother, a 34-year-old woman, was also hurt however it was later confirmed that blood from her daughter’s injuries had been mistaken for injuries of her own.
