A man has been arrested as part of an investigation into the kidnapping of a woman in Sussex.
In a statement released, Sussex Police said,
“Following a report of a kidnap in Hove at around 2am on Monday, August 5, a 21-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested in connection with the investigation.
It was reported that a man had asked a woman for directions at the junction of Selborne Road and Church Road in Hove before pulling her into the car.
He drove off south for a short distance along First Avenue, where the woman was able to escape from the vehicle and call for help.
The vehicle suspected of being involved in the kidnap was seized later that evening.
In the early hours of Sunday, August 11, police arrested a 21-year-old man at a Brighton address on suspicion of kidnap, theft of a vehicle and making off without payment.
Superintendent Petra Lazar said,
“It is understandable that this investigation has raised significant concerns within the local community, and we want to provide reassurance that a dedicated team has been working tirelessly to conduct thorough enquiries, which have now resulted in the arrest of a suspect.
“We would like to thank those who have already come forward and made a report to police with information, and we urge others to do the same.
“Any piece of information, big or small, could prove crucial to the ongoing investigation.”

Updated 18:17hrs – Two further suspects have been arrested in connection with a kidnapping investigation in Hove.
On 4 August, it was reported that a woman was kidnapped by being forced into a car after she was asked for directions by a man at the junction of Selborne Road and Church Road in Hove.
The victim escaped from the vehicle a short distance later in First Avenue and managed to call for help.
On Sunday (11 August) a 21-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of kidnap, theft of a vehicle, theft from a vehicle and making off without payment.
That same evening, two further men, a 21-year-old from Brighton and 29-year-old from Hove, were arrested on suspicion of kidnap, theft of a vehicle, theft from a vehicle and making off without payment.
All three men remain in custody at this time.
Superintendent Petra Lazar said: “We have arrested two further men in connection with this investigation. We are not seeking any further suspects at this time, though we are still encouraging those with information or any relevant CCTV footage of the incident that could assist this investigation to contact us. We would like to thank the community for their support.”
