Southport Knife Attacker Axel Rudakubana Remanded Into Custody

Murder suspect charged with three counts of Murder and ten counts of attempted murder following a ferocious knife attack in Southport on Monday has been named.

Appearing at Liverpool Crown Court today, a judge lifted reporting restrictions, which allows the media to report the identity of the suspect.

On Monday 29th July, shortly before midday, a knifeman entered the Hart Space Community Hub that children attending a Taylor Swift dance themed class were inside and began stabbing them.

Brave staff inside fought to save the lives of the children by locking them in a toilet, Sadly, multiple children were attacked, resulting in three losing their lives and ten others being critically injured.

Emergency Services responded, declaring a critical incident.

Rudakubana was arrested, and a knife was recovered, he was taken to a police station for questioning and last night was charged with the offences of murder and attempted murder.

Making his first appearance this morning at Liverpool Magistrates Court, Rudakubana sat with his head facing down and covering his mouth with his jumper. He was asked to confirm his identity which he remained silence.

The case was adjourned and sent to Liverpool Crown Court, appearing there later this morning the charges where outlined to a high court judge, Rudakubana refused to confirm his identity.

Following legal arguments surrounding the anominity, the judge ruled that reporting restrictions can be lifted despite the defendant being 17 and only one week away from his 18th birthday.

Rudakubana was remanded into Youth Custody to appear at Liverpoop Crown Court at a later date.
