Emergency services were called just before midday on Monday to reports of multiple stabbings in Southport.

A critical incident was declared, and a large emergency service response descended on Hart Street in the town after a knifeman entered a building and stabbed multiple people.

Merseyside Police confirmed yesterday that two children sadly died as a result of this attack that took place at the Hart Space community hub.

Children were attending a Taylor Swift themed dance class at the time of the attack, six children remained in hospital today in a critical condition with two adults also receiving treatment for stab wounds.

A 17-year-old boy from Cardiff was arrested with a knife also recovered, he remains in custody at this time.

A cordon was put in place at a property in the banks area of Lancashire as part of this investigation.

Community members described the terrifying scenes as emergency services responded to this incident and described it as something out of a horror movie.

One eye witness from a nearby business described seeing children being carried out of the property covered in blood and parents screaming in horror.

No details have been released on the suspect by Merseyside Police and we wouldn’t expect to hear any or if at all until any charges are brought against the teenager being held.

Ring doorbell footage has been released showing a male dressed in green wearing a face mask pacing up and down outisde an address that was later raided by armed police as part of this investigation in Old School Close, Banks, Lancashire.

The ages of the victims or their identities have not yet be disclosed to the public.

Members of the community could be seen laying flowers at the scene of this ferocious attack on Monday.

Sir Kier Starmer said, “The events were deeply awful and I know the whole country is deeply shocked at what they’ve seen and what they’ve heard.

I know I speak for everybody and the whole country in saying our thoughts and condolences are with the victims, their families, their friends and the wider community, it is also impossible to imagine the grief that they are going through and the trauma that they are going through.

He went on to say, “I do want to thank the emergency services and Merseyside Police who have had to respond to the most difficult of circumstances.
