A man who dragged a vulnerable 80-years-old woman to the floor to steal her handbag has been jailed.
In a statement released after sentencing, Greater Manchester Police said,
“Shane Allen (21/10/1990) of Withington Road, Manchester was sentenced to three years and four months at Bolton Crown Court today (Tuesday 30 July 2024) after being charged with personal robbery.
This charge came as a result of an investigation from our Bolton Neighbourhood Crime Team after an 80-year-old woman was robbed on Back Mornington Road, Bolton.
At around 6pm on Thursday 13 June 2024, the victim used a cash machine at Morrisons on Chorley Old Road and withdrew £30.
She was walking home when suddenly, she felt someone grab her from behind. The victim turned round and saw Allen pulling her bag from her shoulder.
Allen pulled the bag with that much force it knocked the victim to the floor, causing her to bang the back of her head on the floor.
Whilst led on the floor, the victim screamed “Please don’t take my bag” however Allen continued to pull the bag as hard he could.
The victim, still on the floor, then let go of her bag due to Allen continuously pulling.
The victim was left with bruising to her shoulders and hands and marks on her hands from gripping the bag tightly.
Shane Allen was sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment.
PC Green, of our Bolton Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Allen’s callous actions resulted in the bag, £30 in cash, a bank card and a loyalty card being robbed from a pensioner.
“The victim remains extremely shook up with regards to what has happened and the injuries she suffered at the hands of Allen.
“This petty act of robbing a vulnerable woman has rightly been reflected in today’s sentence and we hope that it provides the victim with some reassurance going forward.”
