Man Charged And Remanded Following Wigan Stabbing

A man has been charged with multiple serious offences following a stabbing in Wigan.

The incident happened on Market Street close to the bus station last Thursday afternoon when a teenager was stabbed in front of horrified onlookers, the incident captured on video was widely shared on social media showing a male brandishing a large knife stood over another male.

In a social media update, Greater Manchester Police said,

“Esmaeel Mohammed (24/12/2004) of Avon Road, Wigan, has been charged with the following:

• Robbery
• Section 18 wounding
• Burglary
• Possession of bladed article
• Affray

He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Saturday 20 July 2024.

These charges relate to an incident on Market Street in Wigan on Thursday 18 July 2024, which saw a 19-year-old man received injuries that were not-life threatening after a stabbing.

A 30-year-old man who was also arrested at the scene has been bailed pending further investigations.
