Man Charged With Indecent Exposure After Investigation In Merseyside

A man has been charged following several reports of indecent exposure in Old Swan.

In a an update released earlier today, Merseyside Police said,

“Between 19 June and 7 July Merseyside Police received reports of indecent exposure with two incidents occurring in the subway on Queens Drive by M62 motorway and on St Oswald’s Street.

On Saturday 13 July, Jake Anthony Bastien, 23 years, of Ulster Road, Old Swan was charged with four counts of exposure, voyeurism – recording a private act, common assault, and observe a person doing a private act.

Bastien was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court today, Monday 15 July.

Detective Inspector Michael Fletcher said: “We urge anyone who is a victim of any form sexual offence to please report this to police, as we have specially trained officers who will treat you with sensitivity and compassion.

“We take all such reports extremely seriously, and in addition, work with partner organisations such as Victim care Support Service and RASA who are there to support victims if this crime.”

For women who have felt or feel unsafe in public spaces the Home Office has set up a pilot service (StreetSafe | https://orlo.uk/anHGm (https://orlo.uk/D0dTH)  for anyone to anonymously report public places where they have felt or feel unsafe, because of environmental issues, eg street lighting, abandoned buildings or vandalism and/or because of some behaviours, eg being followed or verbally abused.
