Drink Driver Charged After Crashing Car Into River Wyre

A man has since been charged after he had a lucky escape following a collision in Skippool at the weekend.

In a social media update, Lancashire Police said,

“At around 11:08pm on Saturday 13th July we were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a driver coming off the road and crashing into the River Wyre at Wyre Road, Skippool Creek.


Officers attended to find the driver trapped in the car. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and HM Coastguard Fleetwood urgently extracted the man from the vehicle.

The driver, Stuart Wade, 44, from Dockinsall Lane, Preston was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after he blew 78 at the roadside. He has since been charged with the offence of Drink Driving and released on bail to appear at Blackpool Magistrates Court on 13/09/24.

Thank you to the Volunteer Coastguard for their patience and support in recovering the man and his vehicle, as the tide was quickly rising.


This drink driver had a lucky escape with the tide being out at the time of the collision.

A Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service Spokesperson said,

“At 23:13, eight fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, a water incident unit and a drone attended an incident on Wyre Road, Thornton Cleveleys. The incident involved one car that had driven into a creek.

Firefighters used two rope packs, two triple extension ladders, lighting, a longboard, and a winch. One casualty was conveyed to hospital by ambulance.

Crews were detained for one hour and forty-five minutes.
