A man has been jailed after stabbing his victim during an altercation back in 2022.
In a statement released today, Greater Manchester Police said,
“Michael Muldoon (19/03/1980) was sentenced to 8 years and 1 month yesterday (Thursday 11 July) after pleading guilty to a section 18 assault at a hearing on March 4 2024.
On Friday 11 March 2022, an incident occurred outside a shop on Stockport Road, Levenshulme at around 11.37pm.
As Muldoon entered the store, he made slight contact with the victim’s arms due to the entrance of the shop being too narrow, causing a verbal argument between the pair.
Muldoon threw his elbow towards the victim, imitating that he would strike him, which led to the victim taking a grip of him by the collar of his jacket and then pushing him towards the shop door.
Muldoon left the shop and lay in wait for the victim armed with a knife which had been earlier concealed within his pants. As the victim left the shop he was attacked as Muldoon lunged at his neck with the knife.
During the assault the victim was able to grab hold of Muldoon’s arms and drove him backwards. At this point Muldoon again stabs him towards the region of his head.
The victim continues to drive Muldoon backwards which results in Muldoon tripping over with the victim landing on top of him.
The victim remained at the scene with Muldoon unconscious on the floor.
A nearby police patrol responding to the incident managed the initial medical care of both Muldoon and the victim until NWAS arrived.
The victim was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary where he received treatment to the stab wounds on his neck.
Muldoon was taken to Salford Royal Hospital and was later arrested for attempted murder. Following an investigation he was subsequently charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Detective Constable Liam Carolan, of GMP’s Specialist Operations Unit, said: “Muldoon is a dangerous, high-risk individual who had only been on licence for six months when this attack took place following a previous conviction for murder.
“This was a callous attack on an innocent victim who did nothing to entice such a response from Muldoon. The fact Muldoon hid and waited to attack his victim while armed with a knife was terrifying for the unsuspecting victim.
“Muldoon was emergency recalled on his licence following this assault and has been in prison until today’s outcome.
“I am pleased that today’s sentence means he will go back behind bars for a significant period and away from harming members of the public.”
