Detectives investigating the murder of Fintan Mcdwyer have made an arrest over the weekend.
In an update posted on Sunday, Greater Manchester Police said,
“This morning (Sunday 7 July) a man – aged 30 – was arrested in Longsight, Manchester on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to custody ahead of being questioned by detectives from GMP’s Major Incident Team.
Detectives continue to appeal for information after they launched a murder investigation in South Manchester. Emergency services attended a property on Platt Lane in Fallowfield at 8.50am on Monday 1st July and a man, who was later named as Fintan McDwyer, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers are looking at numerous lines of enquiry but believe a violent assault took place in the property. Fintan suffered serious and fatal injuries which we believe were caused by a sharp instrument.
Detectives are still looking to speak to as many people as possible who may have information. They are especially keen on speaking to anyone who saw a man walking in the area of Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield and Birchfields Park, Rusholme at around 4am and 4.30am dressed in all black clothing with a balaclava on.
If you saw someone matching this description in the early hours of Sunday 30 June – please get in touch as officers are continuing to build a timeline of events surrounding Fintan’s death.
Detective Inspector Lee Shaw of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This is a shocking murder of a much-loved family man. As the investigation progresses at pace, we have specially trained officers who have been deployed to support them and keep them updated throughout the investigation.
“Our investigation is moving quickly, and we continue to work round the clock to capture a picture of what happened to Fintan.
“I ask anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area that evening to come forward and know that information will be treated with the strictest confidence. Information could benefit our investigation massively, so please do not stay silent.
“If you have any information or footage that could assist our investigation into this incident, please contact GMP on 0161 856 5415 quoting log 695 of 1/7/24.
