A man has been arrested as part of an investigation into a firearms discharge in Salford at the weekend.
In a social media update, Greater Manchester Police said,
“Just before 9pm on Sunday 30 June, we were called by members of the public to reports of a suspected firearms discharge. Residents reported hearing three gunshots in the Weaste area of Salford, and through initial enquiries, we established that several shots had been fired at an address on Jane Street in Salford.
Immediate safeguarding measures were put in place for those affected, and additional patrols were deployed to the area to support the community and conduct further enquiries. As a result of a proactive stop search made by our neighbourhood officers this afternoon (Tuesday 2 July), we have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Justin Bryant of GMP’s Salford crime investigation department, said: “Whilst our investigation is in the early stages, I hope this arrest shows the community that we are taking swift action to protect them, and tackle firearms enabled criminality.
“I would like to thank those who have already come forward and shared information with us, and I would urge anyone who has not yet spoken to us directly, please get in touch. Please don’t assume what you know is already known to us. The smallest piece of information, CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage could be crucial to our investigation.
“We are continuing our appeal to anyone who may have seen a white SUV type vehicle in the area over the last few days, which perhaps seemed out of place. At this stage, we believe this vehicle to be crucial to our investigation.
“Additional officers remain in the area, they are there to support you, and I would urge you to speak to them if you haven’t already.
