Two Teens Charged With Section 18 Assault After Man In His 70s Stabbed In Orrell, Wigan

Two teenagers have been charged with section 18 wounding after an incident where an elderly man suffered stab wounds in an assault in Wigan.

Shortly before 4pm on Thursday 27 June Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a stabbing on Edge Hall Road in Orrell, Wigan. Following extensive enquiries, by detectives two teens were initially arrested  on suspicion of attempted murder.

An elderly man in his 70s remains in hospital with serious injuries and is receiving specialised treatment.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service they have authorised charges against the pair.

In an update posted online, Greater Manchester Police said,

“Ryan Sweatman (22/11/2005) of Linden Avenue, Orrell and Deacon Hart (21/05/2005) of Viscount Road, Wigan, have been charged with the following;

Section 18 assault
Possession of an offensive weapon
They have been remanded into custody ahead of a scheduled appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Tuesday 2 July 2024.

These charges relate to an incident which happened on Edge Hall Road in Orrell, Wigan on Thursday 27 June 2024, which saw a man in his 70s taken to hospital with serious injuries following a reported stabbing.
