A man has been banned from driving and received fines for providing officers in Preston false details after he drove through a red light in the city.

The driver, a local man, had already got 6 points on his driving licence, and after receiving another 6 from the courts meant he was instantly banned.

In a social media update, Preston Police said,

“We have taken a man to court after he drove through a red light, and then provided false information to the Police in an attempt to avoid prosecution.

Our Safer Roads Unit investigated, then brought this man before the courts where he was found guilty of providing false or misleading information.

This month, Muhsen Kalid, 60, of Mosley Street, Preston received 6 points on his licence, bringing his total to 12 and he was subsequently banned from driving for 6 months under the totting up rules. He was also ordered to pay £1,040 for the fine, victim surcharge and prosecution costs.

PC Emma Greenwood, of our Safer Roads Unit said: “This was a serious attempt to pervert the course of justice and, as demonstrated, we will bring people before the courts for this.

The Safer Roads Unit are committed to tackling these crimes, and should you choose to commit criminal driving offences, know that we will find out, and we will bring you to justice.”
