Drunk Driver Who Reports Car Stolen After Forgetting Where He Parked Arrested

The driver of a car who called the police to report it stolen lands himself in the nick.

The incident happened earlier today, Saturday 29th June, when a call came into the control room at Lancashire Constabulary’s headquarters from a driver reporting that his car had been stolen. He then called back to inform call handlers that he had found his vehicle parked around the corner from where he originally thought he’d parked it.

A call handler became suspicious about the manner of the man’s call and described him as “sounding a little worst for wear,” so sent patrols out to have a peek.

In a social media post, Lancs Police Specialist Ops said,

“The first job of the day for #T2RPU saw them intercepting this Audi on the M65. The owner had reported it stolen but then ‘found’ it parked around the corner from where he thought he’d left it.

He rather helpfully let us know that he’d found it but the Force Control Room operator taking the call thought he sounded a little worse for wear and deployed patrols.

Suspicions were confirmed when he provided an evidential breath specimen containing twice the legal limit of alcohol and he was treated to an all-inclusive stay at our Greenbank boutique facility. #nonefortheroad
