Woman Sentenced For Manslaughter Of Her Partner After Fatal Stabbing

A woman has been sentenced for the manslaughter of her partner who was fatally stabbed in Bootle last year.

In a social media update after sentencing,  Merseyside Police said,

“On the morning of Wednesday 22 November, emergency services were called to a report that a man had been stabbed at an address on Church Walk.

44-year-old Gerard Hand was taken to hospital but despite the efforts of emergency workers, he was sadly pronounced deceased.

A post-mortem recorded his death from a single stab wound to the chest.

Detectives charged his partner 43-year-old Amanda McDonnell, of no fixed address, with his murder.

Last month McDonnell pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Liverpool Crown Court.

Today, Friday 28 June, she was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison.

Speaking about the verdict, Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dyer said: “Firstly I would like to convey our sincere condolences to Gerard’s family.

“This is a tragic case where McDonnell’s actions that day led to the death of her partner.

“McDonnell pleaded guilty to his manslaughter which gave the family some solace of not having to hear the events leading up to his tragic death.

“McDonnell now has to live with the result of her actions that fateful day, and I hope that this conviction will give Gerard’s family a sense of closure.”
