Police in the Fylde have warned against a scam that criminals are using to target motorists using Fylde Coast carparks.
If you are out enjoying the sunshine across the fylde coast, look out for QR stickers on ticket machines and don’t scan them as these are not legitimate and Fylde Council have confirmed that no such codes exist on any of their carparks.
In a social media post, Fylde Police said,
“Please be aware that Fylde Council car parks do not use QR codes (like those pictured) for payment at meters. The stickers were placed on the meters by scammers, and the links used in this kind of fraud can be very convincing.
If you have used the QR codes, please check your bank statements, if there are any fraudulent transactions contact your bank immediately and report to Action Fraud: https://orlo.uk/HI1oQ
“Fylde Council state that all known scam stickers have been removed and advise that the safest way to pay is to download the MiPermit App.”
Fylde Coast Council said in a social media post,
We’ve investigated and found stickers with a large QR code have been placed on some of our car park pay and display machines and tariff boards.
If you see these QR codes please do not use them, they have been placed by scammers!
If you have used them, please contact the police and your bank.
