The family and friends of a teen Jay Slater missing in Tenerife continues to be tormented on social media by vile armchair detectives.
Jay, 19, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, vanished after attending a music festival on the island over the weekend.
It is reported that he left with two British men and returned to their holiday apartment miles away from his own accommodation.
On Monday 17th June, Jay called his friend to say that he was in the middle of nowhere, thirsty and had only one percent left on his phone battery and had missed a bus, his maps where showing a walking distance of around eleven hours back to his accommodation.
His friend raised the alarm with the Spanish authorities, and a large search operation has been underway ever since, including specialist search dogs, mountain rescue, and helicopters.
The search has concentrated on the last known location of Jay, which was in Rural De Tenor Park in the village of Masca.
On Tuesday afternoon, Jay’s mother, Debbie, and brother flew to Tenerife. Since then, other family members and friends have also travelled to the island to join the search.
Facebook groups set up online that amassed thousands of followers continue to troll both Jay’s friends and family.
It has been reported that people are hacking into their social media accounts and making up lies.
Conspiracy theorists continue to spread like wildfire across social media with sick jokes regarding Jay’s disappearance.
A family friend said,
“I can’t believe some people are actually this sick in the head. There are people hacking my accounts and Jays family’s making up pure lies and pretending we are all in on it.
Jays missing and it’s absolutely sole destroying that we can’t find him, his mum is absolutely broken it’s cruel
We know he as been with 2 or possibly more people up in the mountains, we have can confirm phone signal has proven this, after that we don’t know as here in Spain without evidence of anything they can’t look into it to the court to act on it, their searching and taking this matter very serious and it’s hard work, not just that the language barrier is so bad, we have to have someone with us to talk for us, and for us to understand it’s so bad.
Honestly the police here are checking cctv and looking into leads that have been given in to them as we speak there was some confusion with times with Lucy and Brad it’s just that again the language barrier and the fact Lucy as rang to report Jay missing they haven’t got the first information correct not that no one is lying !!
I have people saying that people are screen shotting conversations that isn’t me it’s other people, sickos taking over my picture and pretending it’s me
If you all knew how hard it was this, you would not be questioning it, it’s all s**t, Jays missing almost 5 DAYS, IT’S NOT A JOKE! watching his mum break down every single second is almost torture it really is.
