Greater Manchester Police have made numerous arrest across the city as part of Operation Avro.
In a social media update, Greater Manchester Police said,
“As criminals slept across the Salford district, our dedicated officers were out disrupting their activities as part of Operation AVRO this morning (Thursday 20 June 2024).
At the time of writing, we have made 35 arrests having conducted several warrants which uncovered large quantities of drugs, including a cannabis farm in Weaste.
A traffic operation is also underway, with several motorists stopped and arrested for speeding and traffic offences.
This afternoon, our mounted unit will be patrolling Little Hulton, while officers will attend local schools to deliver inputs to students.
Inspector Simon Ashcroft, of our Salford district, said: “Operation AVRO is in full swing across the city of Salford. You will see increased patrols in the area, high visibility operations, a significant shoplifting and retail theft operation targeting theft from stores, identifying and bringing offenders of those types of crimes to justice.
“Ongoing throughout the day you will see this continuing, so please don’t be alarmed, please feel free to approach the officers, engage with them, have that conversation – they are here to engage with the community, they are your local officers and they want to speak to you.”
Operation AVRO is a force wide initiative that delivers extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month and launched in Salford in October 2021.
Since then, it has travelled around the force with the operation targeting crimes and concerns that members of the public in that district have told GMP give them the most concern.
