Operation Sceptre is a nationwide intensification week aimed at tackling knife crime through educational visits, proactive police work, and knife surrender bins across various locations across each county began on Monday 13th May 2024 – 19th May 2024.
We asked Lancashire Police three questions under the freedom of information act 2000,
1) How many weapons handed in across all areas of Lancashire.
2) How Many arrests where made in relation to Op Sceptre.
3) How many educational visits conducted.
Lancashire Police responded to our request and here is what they said,
1728 was the total number of weapons for the latest May Op Sceptre, including from surrender bins.
There were 190 arrests recorded during this week.
And over 11,000 young people attended school engagement lessons during this week, with a mixture of primary and secondary schools visited.
These figures show that these week of action operations work and although it’s part of the Police’s daily business up and down the country, intensification weeks highlight the importance of keeping the streets safe for people living in their communities and the the work local authorities and partner agencies do to make it happen.
Op Sceptre is all about early intervention, education and enforcement, and will be back again for another intensification week soon.
