A woman has been arrested after police officers searching a house in Kirby uncovered a firearm along with ammunition.

In a statement released today, Merseyside Police said,

“A woman has been arrested after a firearm, ammunition, drugs and suspected stolen motorbikes were found at a property in Kirkby.

On Thursday 23 May officers attended an address in Northwood after being informed that a stolen Yamaha motorbike was inside the property. Officers gained access and recovered a stolen motorbike.

Following a further search being carried out a firearm, ammunition, drugs, a suspected stolen electric bike and a large amount of money was found at the address.

A 29-year-old woman from Kirkby was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition, handling stolen goods, theft of motor vehicle, possession of Class A and B drugs and possession of criminal property.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson from the Firearms Investigation Team said: “This is an important recovery as it means that there is one less weapon on our streets which could have been used to cause fear and intimidation in our communities.

“We are committed to taking weapons off our streets and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will investigate.

“We rely on information from the public to discover where weapons are being stored and who is using them, and I would ask our community to be our eyes and ears.

“Information from the public is vital if we are to breakdown the organised crime groups who bring misery to our streets.”

If you have got any information about the use or storage of weapons please DM Merseyside Police Contact Centre or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
