Reassurance Patrols Stepped Up After Violent Disorder In Brierfield

Police have stepped up patrols in the Brierfield area as reassurance to the local community after violent disorder erupted on Tuesday evening.

It has been reported that a group of men who police say are known to each other, thus treating it as an isolated incident engaged in street violence with some individuals brandishing weapons.

In a post made by the force, Nelson, Brierfield and Barrowford Police said, “You may be aware of some disorder in Brierfield yesterday evening and we just wanted to let you know what we had done about it.

Our officers were called to Carlton Street at 7.54pm to reports of an ongoing fight, with a few individuals carrying weapons.

We have attended and arrested three local men – aged 24, 26, and 40 – on suspicion of violent disorder.

Nobody was seriously injured, and this is being treated as an isolated incident between parties known to each other.

Our enquiries are very much ongoing to identify others potentially involved in criminal acts.

We will have increased reassurance patrols in the area in the coming days as a precaution.
