Pedestrian Hospitalised After Being Driven At By Car In Liverpool

A man has been hospitalised after allegedly being deliberately mowed down by a car in a Liverpool street.

The incident happened this evening in the city leaving the man with head and leg injuries, police also said the victim was subjected to an assault by the suspects who got out of the car after the collision happened and attacked the man.

Merseyside Police said in a statement, “We are appealing for information after a car was reported to have been driven at a pedestrian in Liverpool this evening (Wednesday 15 May).

We were called just before 6.15pm to Berkley Street, close to its junction with Upper Stanhope Street, to a report three males got out of the vehicle and assaulted the man immediately after the collision.

The car, a grey Mercedes GLA, was then driven away down Emerson Street. It was located a short time later on Cairns Street in Toxteth and has been seized for forensic examination.

The pedestrian, a 31-year-old man, was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment for cuts to the head and a leg injury. His condition is described as stable.

A road closure remains in place on Berkley Street while a forensic examination of the scene continues.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes. We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident.  

We are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation.

Detective Inspector Darren Taylor said: “Our investigation into this incident is in its very early stages, but it does appear the car was deliberately driven at the man who was then assaulted by the occupants.

“Not only would this have been a traumatic experience for the victim, but it would have been shocking for any onlookers.

“We have launched an investigation into what happened and have already seized the car we believe was involved. Our officers are continuing to undertake an extensive search of the area and studying CCTV footage to establish the full circumstances and locate the offenders.

“I appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, and any residents living locally who might have CCTV of a vehicle in the area between 6-6.45pm to please contact us. Alternatively, if you were driving in the vicinity I ask that you please check your dashcam footage that may have captured the incident or the car and to also come forward.

“Every piece information is vitally important to our investigation and could help us establish what happened so we can provide answers for his family.”
