Lancashire Police confirmed that a man who was filmed by parents after offering energy drinks to children on a South Ribble park had not committed any criminal offence after a thorough investigation into the incident.

Footage circulating online showed angry parents approach the man whilst sat in his vehicle after he was seen engaging in conversation with children before offering them prime energy drinks, online speculation then ensued with what police say caused unnecessary upset and fear amongst the local community.

In a statement posted on social media, South Ribble Police said, “We know that many of you have been concerned by reports on social media about a man engaging children in conversation  while offering them Prime energy drinks, and the potentially sinister intentions behind this behaviour.

Just to reassure you, we take all reports of this nature seriously and thoroughly investigate their validity.

Following this incident, we carried out a thorough investigation into the matter, and we are now satisfied that no criminal offences took place.

We understand that this speculation has left people feeling concerned, and we have had an increased policing presence in the area to reassure the local community that we take those concerns seriously.

We would ask that people don’t engage in the spreading of unsubstantiated rumours or unhelpful speculation, particularly on social media, as it can lead to unnecessary upset and fear.

If you have witnessed or are aware of any criminal activity, call 101. In an emergency, always call 999.
