Lancashire Polices Rural Taskforce give an update on the work they have been up to in keeping the roads safe around Lancashire, from drug drivers, to stolen plant machinery below is what they had to say.

In a social media post, Rossendale Police said,

“Sorry that we have been rather quiet recently. We have had some changes to our team members as well as being busy with our ongoing investigations. We continue to be proactive on our roads, patrolling our rural borders to keep you all safe and intercept any travelling criminals.

Rather than writing a long post, here is just a quick snapshot of what we have been up to:

A male from OLDHAM has been arrested and interviewed following a theft of a THWAITES DUMPER TRUCK that was taken from a CADENT SITE in BACUP on the 31st MARCH 2024. The suspect has been released under investigation whilst our enquiries are ongoing.

3 x drug drivers arrested with one (the small campervan) failing to provide a specimen of blood at custody.

3 x drink drivers arrested, one blowing 105 (BLUE AUDI), and another blowing 107 (BROWN CITROEN C4 PICASSO). The legal limit is 35!

The team conducted an OPERATION TRISTAR with our Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and the DVSA targeting a wide variety of vehicles. A large number of Traffic Offence Reports and Prohibition Notices were issued for various offences.

The white MERCEDES SPRINTER van (photographed) that was stolen from CHESHIRE in March was located and seized after the driver abandoned the vehicle in EDENFIELD

The silver MERCEDES (photographed) failed to stop for the team in BURNLEY but was eventually brought to a stop after a short pursuit. The driver had no licence or insurance, was dealt with for multiple offences, and his vehicle was seized.

A male from HELMSHORE has been issued with a police caution following an investigation into his dog worrying livestock and a female has been dealt for the same offence via a Community Resolution after agreeing to pay compensation to the farmer. Both incidents have a detrimental effect on livestock during lambing season.

Today, the team conducted a joint operation (OPERATION DRAGSTER) with GMP and our partner agencies. We also had assistance from our local rural community following an increase in off-road bikes / quad bikes illegally using the moorland. 3 x Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, and details were obtained, and these individuals will be issued Community Protection Warnings (CPW). Last week, we also issued a local businessman with a CPW following information that he was organising, such as off-road activities in and around Rossendale.
