Police in Hyndburn have been busy keeping the communities safe by sharing details of their work carried out in Huncoat last week.

Hyndburn Police said, “On Wednesday 25th April 2024, your local neighbourhood policing team conducted a Day of Action in the Huncoat area. The objective was to work with partner agencies in order to target criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in the area. Here are some of the things we did:-

Partnership work with Trading standards – several shops in the area were visited which resulted in us finding three purpose-built concealments. We seized illicit products from all of the shops visited which included 966 packs of cigarettes, a quantity of hand-rolling tobacco and a number of vapes with a street value of over £9,500!

The illegal trade in these products is widespread, with some unscrupulous retailers deliberately selling illicit goods, often to children. Cheap, illicit tobacco encourages children to smoke, and the sale of illegal products impacts on legitimate businesses and the health of our communities.

If you know of any businesses selling illegal tobacco or vapes, please let Trading Standards know by contacting the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 0808 2231133.

PCSO’s on ASB patrol with Onward Homes – visits were made to some of their known problem areas. This has assisted us in planning where our future patrols should be focused.

Team Road safety operation – officers conducted speed enforcement checks on Lower Gate Road due to recent reports of speeding vehicles. A number of vehicles were driven over the speed limit and a driver was given a Traffic Offence Report.

If you have any speeding concerns, you can submit these via the following link – Speed Concern Submission – Lancashire Road Safety Partnership (https://orlo.uk/7hOEb)

Primary school engagement – officers spoke with staff and pupils before providing visibility in order to tackle problem parking and anti-social driving around the school.

Several hi-visibility foot patrols – hotspot areas were patrolled both in the day and into the evening, resulting in a male being found in possession of a class B controlled drug. The male was subsequently dealt with by way of a Fixed Penalty notice.

We hope that you saw us in the area and please keep a look out for further operations of this nature – Great Harwood, Rishton and Oswaldtwistle are next!
