We speak with a lorry Driver who shared footage online of dangerous drivers he has encountered whilst working as a lorry driver on some of the busiest North West motorways.
We asked Lorry driver Stephen Gill who works for a company based in Preston what it’s like to be a lorry driver driving on the Uk’s Motorways and here is what he had to say.
“It’s generally a good job I like to think I am one of the chilled out type of drivers, people do make mistakes but some also do some very stupid things.
The machines I carry are all wheeled machines so I have to drive with caution !! Most drivers I know are spot on but there are some that give us a bad name. We too have to deal with them not just the car drivers!
My point in sharing the videos was to show that if I’d of had to swerve or wasn’t on the ball the situation could have been worse and the cars wouldn’t have even known what they had created behind them and carried on with their day.”
The top causes of accidents on motorways are due to drivers non-adherence to lane driving, overtaking in the wrong manner, speeding, driver distractions and being under the influence of drink or drugs.
Despite carrying around a fifth of all traffic, motorways account for only 5% of fatalities on our roads. However, when motorway crashes do occur, they’re often severe due to the high speeds involved.
