A Mum and son from Skelmersdale have been banned from keeping animals for 10 years after they admitted starving two French Bulldogs in their care.
The South Rural Task Force attended a property on Blakehall on 1st May 2023 following reports of concern for animals that had been left in the house with no food or water and the RSPCA (England & Wales) were called to assist.
Sadly, one of the dogs, a female called Gucci, was found dead at the address. She weighed 3.4kg. A healthy adult French Bulldog would weigh around 10kg.
The second dog, another female called Violet (pictured) was also severely underweight. Thankfully, she has made a full recovery and has since been rehomed.
Susan Shaw, 60, of Blakehall, Skelmersdale and Jack Wynne, 30, of the same address each pleaded guilty to five animal welfare offences earlier this month and were banned from keeping animals for 10 years.
Shaw received a 26-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months and Wynne was handed a three-month prison term, also suspended for 18 months.
PC Sean Dalby from the South Rural Task Force, said: “We take reports of animal cruelty seriously and will continue to be the voice of animals in need by working closely with the RSPCA. This was a really shocking and preventable case that should not have happened and we are pleased that the courts have taken the matter so seriously.
“As a team, we are happy that we were able to save one of the dogs who is now living a happy life. We would like to thank the RSPCA and we will continue to support them.”
