Police Chases With Helicopter And Dogs To Stop Lancs Road Criminals

Police have been busy keeping the roads across Lancashire safe with a number of arrests taking place including a car that reached 120mph to evade the police and quad bikes being used dangerously.

First up, Lancashire Police said, “Drinking and Driving a HGV down the motorway with a half-drunk bottle of Vodka in the cab?

As you can imagine, this driver ended their shift with an overnight stay in custody.

On Sunday evening (April 7) we received a report of a HGV travelling southbound on the M6, swaying across the hard shoulder and lanes in the Lancaster area.

Our officers signalled for the HGV to stop, but it instead led our officers on a pursuit down the motorway. It later stopped on the hard shoulder in Bamber Bridge.

The driver was breathalysed at the scene, providing a reading of 92, over two and a half times the legal limit of 35.

When our officers searched the vehicle, they found a half-drunk bottle of vodka in the cab.

James Tulloch, 52, of Cuby Road, Truro, Cornwall was arrested on suspicion of, and later charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above the limit and failing to stop. He was remanded to appear at Preston Magistates Court today (April 9).

But there’s never a dull day for our SpecOps and Roads teams:

Because the next day, our officers pursued another driver who reached speeds of 120mph on the motorway.

Spoiler alert – this was a very silly idea.

On April 8, our officers signalled for a Volkswagen Passat to stop in Nelson, having noticed it speeding.

It failed to do so – leading them on a pursuit, reaching speeds over double the speed limit on a 30mph road, before travelling at up to 120 mph on the M65.

The car was safely brought to a stop, and a 27-year-old man from Nelson was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis. He has since been released under investigation.

Over in Blackpool the helicopter and police dogs assisted officers on the ground after a quad bike failed to stop after being driven dangerously around the streets.

Police eventually managed to stop the quad and two males were arrested and taken into custody.
