
Police in Burnley Town Centre have been given powers to disperse people after reports of Anti-Social Behaviour In the town.
Inspector Hesketh Of Lancashire Police said,
“Please be aware that dispersal powers under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act 2014 have been authorised in the BURNLEY TOWN CENTRE & BUS STATION areas between 19:00, 02/04/2024 & midnight tonight as shown within the attached map.

This follows recently received reports of a pre-arranged fight due to take place in the area at 19:00 between teenagers, and a large group of teenagers subsequently found to be present in the area shortly before that time.
This power has been authorised to prevent members of the public in the locality experiencing harassment, alarm or distress, or crime & disorder occurring in the area.
The authority provides officers with the power to exclude people from the area, direct that they leave the area via a particular route and not return within a specified time. Failure to follow directions given may result in arrest.
Parents/Guardians – Do you know where your children are? If you believe they are in Burnley Town Centre, please come and collect them.
Officers have been diverted to the area to enforce this authority.
